The level of intensity was at a fever pitch as the Boston Cannons returned to the grand confines of historical Harvard Stadium to open their 2016 home campaign. And the local pro lacrosse outfit did not disappoint. Get an exclusive, personal look below in the latest episode of “Behind the Cage.”
The backdrop itself is breathtaking. Harvard Stadium, the first collegiate athletic stadium built in the United States in 1903, has been the stage for countless athletic battles for more than a century. From the power of its concrete steps leading up to the regal pillars lining the top of the framework, it’s the epitome of battleground for competitors – or shall we say gladiators – in any sport.
On this particular Saturday, Harvard Stadium would be the stage for a Major League Lacrosse contest between the Cannons and the freshest franchise in the league, the Atlanta Blaze. The action was furious and the crowd was rowdy, a precursor to what will be on display well into the summer months at this legendary venue.
The Cannons sit at 1-1 on the young season, and travel to Maryland for a match-up with the Chesapeake Bayhawks before returning home to square off against the Rochester Rattlers on May 14.
